Client Highlight: Kristen S.

Today, we meet Kristen, a loving mother who was motivated by her desire to be more present in her son’s life. That motivation has led to recovery.

Can you describe the moment when you realized you wanted to start your journey of recovery?

“About a year ago, I realized I wasn't there with my son as much as I wanted to be and I saw everybody else being with him and I wasn't so that was my reality check that I needed to get sober.”

What Driftless Recovery services have you/do you participate in? What have you found helpful?

“I go to Women's Group and I completed my driver's safety plan here. Now I find it helpful to be able to come and vent each week without judgment.”

What are some milestones or achievements you feel proud of?

“There’s a lot. Getting sober, starting school, getting my license back, having more time with my son. Staying away from bad influences and refreshing my life with new healthy people. It takes a lot of courage to change your whole life.”

What have you learned about yourself during your time in services?

“I've learned that I can overcome my battles and I can keep my mouth shut when needed and it's okay to not be okay.”

What plans/goals do you have for yourself moving forward?

“I plan to have a house for my son,  graduate college, and start some businesses. I want to travel and maybe meet some new friends. I’d love to travel around the world… but not all at once!”

Kristen’s final message for the readers:

“Women's group has really helped me with interacting with other women and not feeling judged. Driftless Recovery Services has been so good to me . Coming here really helps me work out my problems.”
