Client Highlight: Lauren G.

How did you get connected to Driftless Recovery Services?
”I found out about Driftless because my mom signed me up like 4 or 5 years ago for my anxiety.”

If you could tell someone one thing about therapy, what would it be?
”Therapy is probably one of the hardest things ever, but if it weren't for therapy, I wouldn't be alive today. So in a way it saved me and helped me become a better person.”

What have you learned about yourself during your time in services?
”I learned that I have a lot of issues with boundaries and saying no. I learned how severe my depression was and how bad it was throughout the years that I've been going to therapy. I also learned how my moods affect me and other people. I learned how my meds help me and what I'm like when I'm off of them. Before I was unable to see that kind of stuff. I learned to stand up for myself. I learned that my meds help me to be a better person. They help me be my true self and be able to make decisions for myself. I learned to set boundaries. I've learned to say no to people when I'm uncomfortable. I've learned to speak up and I learned lots of different coping mechanisms for when I'm having a panic attack or I'm stressed or I am in a depressive episode and I have no motivation to do anything.”

What are some personal milestones or achievements you feel proud of? “I'm proud of overcoming my depression after 6 and 1/2 years. I'm proud of making it almost 5 years after I OD'd. I'm very proud that I have gotten to a point where I can be happy and live my life.”

What plans/goals do you have for yourself moving forward?
Making something of myself. One day being able to say that I did it, and say that I went to college and I made a life for myself, and I can be successful.”
