Client Highlight: Elizabeth W.
Today’s blog features a resilient, young woman named Elizabeth. She shares a strong connection to her provider, Ryan, and has a passion for helping others.
How did you get connected to Driftless Recovery Services?
“I was going to Gunderson and wanted to go back to therapy. They were full with a long wait so I decided to look around the area for somewhere else to go. I ended up hearing about Driftless and it seemed like a good fit. It feels like home, it's not like a therapy place or like what you think a typical therapy place is like. Everybody cares here instead of just like ‘oh well, it's just another therapy place’. The staff actually seems to care here.”
Who do you see and what do you like about it?
“I see Ryan. He is my biggest cheerleader. This last year after my dad passed, he was definitely the biggest support for me. My dad raised me and was my best friend so when I told Ryan that he was very understanding. A week later, I ended up getting a card from the staff sending me their condolences. It was really nice. It’s also hard for me to trust guys, so to have Ryan is just great.”
If you could tell someone one thing about therapy, what would it be? “Don’t be scared to go, it really works.”
What have you learned about yourself during your time in services?
"I can handle a lot more than I think I can. I also learned that I don’t have to carry the burden alone, I have someone else I can go to who can support and cheer me on.”
What are some personal milestones or achievements you feel proud of?
"Instead of dropping out of college, I kept going and I'm graduating this April with hopefully honors for a degree as a medical assistant. I have a job interview this month for pediatrics.”
What plans/goals do you have for yourself moving forward?
"I want to work for pediatrics. I want to live on a big farm again and have horses and make it for people with mental and physical disabilities, like horse therapy.”
Elizabeth’s message to the readers:
"Don't be scared to reach out for help. When you go through stuff, you don’t have to do it on your own.”
