The Path to Recovery: Support Meetings

In the realm of mental health and substance use counseling, the importance of support groups in the recovery process cannot be overstated. These groups provide a vital avenue for individuals to share their struggles, find solace in the experiences of others, and work collectively toward achieving and maintaining sobriety.

For this topic, we’ve interviewed some of our clients to share with us their perspective on attending meetings. Here’s what they had to say:

“I can be myself and not worry about being judged for my past.”

“It gives me insight on how others stay sober.”

“I don’t feel alone when I’m there”.

Some of the most highlighted meetings in the area are:

Monday Fireside Group at First Lutheran Church, 7pm

Wednesday Just Women Meeting at Olivet Lutheran, 5:30pm

Wednesday HOPE at Alano, 7pm

Saturday Refuge Recovery at Coulee Recovery Center, 8am

Saturday NA at The Driftless House, 12pm

Advice they want to share with someone thinking about attending their first meeting….

  • “It’s worth it.”

  • “Go in with an open mind.”

  • “You don’t have to keep going to the same one if you don’t like it. Try a new one!”

  • “Just go in and sit down.”

AA and NA meetings have been instrumental in helping countless individuals achieve sobriety. However, they are not the only options available. It's essential to recognize that addiction recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey, and different individuals may benefit from different approaches. Exploring alternative meetings and support groups allows individuals to find a recovery path that aligns with their beliefs, needs, and goals. Within Driftless Recovery Services, our counselors offer guidance and resources to help you make informed choices on your journey of recovery.
